Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams is close to a drink and drugs relapse just eight months after leaving rehab, according to a former lover.

He sought help for his addictions at a strict rehabilitation clinic in Tucson, Arizona earlier this year.

But despite intensive therapy for an addiction to painkillers, Williams remains plagued by his demons, according to ex-girlfriend Suzanne Coplin.

She tells British newspaper the News of the World: “His addictions are far from behind him. It is a struggle for him to stay out of trouble every second of his life.

“He is just so vulnerable and said to me: ‘When will I be free from this hell?”

Britney
Williams got edgy when Karen Koster asked him if he would ever work with Spears again, reports dailysnack.com. After taking offence at the question, Williams was taken away by his PR people. But later he apologised to Koster and even answered two more questions.

Williams had co-produced Spears’ hit “I’m A Slave 4 U” in 2001.

Koster said: “He was pretty annoyed when I asked the Britney question but then he softened a bit. Later, I thought we were all done, but he comes over, places his hand on my back and says that he still felt bad.”

Jonathan Ross attacks Robbie Williams, Chris Langham, Amy Winehouse! The List Goes On!

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Jonatha RossShowbiz Spy can exclusively reveal that Jonathan Ross launched scathing attacks on a whole list of celebrities at the Q Awards last night, most notably Robbie Williams, Chris Langham and Amy Winehouse, who have all gone through troubled times in the last year.

The talk show host and Radio 2 DJ had a field day, seeing that Amy Winehouse failed to turn up at the event, commenting whilst reading her name out to receive her Best Album of the Year gong: “I was on a 3-1 bet that Amy would die before Pavarotti. I’m really annoyed with Amy that I lost.

Ross decided that he would continue by slating Robbie Williams for his invisible career in America: “The Q Hero award should really be deserved by superheroes. Robbie Williams should get a superhero award – for being invisible in America.”

The chat show host also attacked jailed actor Chris Langham, by joking about his past success at the British Comedy Awards.

Ross said: “They gave an award to Langham – a nine-year-old boy. Normally, they give a trophy.”

The TV star jibed veteran rockers Led Zeppelin about their recent reunion, telling the audience: “There were millions of hits on the website to register for tickets to their gig. It was probably all the pensioners suffering from Parkinson’s clicking the mouse more than they should.”

Britney Spears: Who’s profiting from her breakdown?

Britney Spears
After years of being fodder for the celebrity press, Britney Spears’s train wreck of a story hit a news high last week when a judge with less tolerance for her antics than the public took away custody, at least temporarily, of her two young sons.

The stern ruling lent her saga a dose of poignancy. For all her recent bizarre, unexplainable behavior, Spears is now a mother in danger of losing permanent custody of her two toddlers, ages 2 and 1.

But the latest installment also showed that the attention paid to this long-running public drama has become a force of its own – one that sells magazines and music, increases Web traffic and gives obscure characters their minutes of fame.

Who won and who lost in the latest twists of the Britney story?

When it comes to traffic, “Britney is Old Faithful,” said Harvey Levin, the managing editor of TMZ.com, one of the top gossip Web sites, adding that both page views and unique visitors spike when an item on her appears, though he declined to give exact figures. Since the ruling last week, which was followed by an order that allows Spears monitored visits every other day, the site has run numerous updates.

Levin said interest in Spears outweighed that of any other celebrity among TMZ’s users. “There are people who love her and there are people who think she’s a train wreck,” he said, “and everybody wonders how it’s going to end.”

Staying in the public eye, even scandalously, has generated a high amount of interest in Spears’s artistic comeback. Despite her lethargic performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last month, derided by critics and viewers, her single “Gimme More” is selling strongly. It has been the No. 1 singles download on iTunes and sold more than 179,000 copies in its first week on sale on digital services. Largely as a result of those sales, the song pole-vaulted from No. 68 to No. 3 in the week ending Sunday, Sept. 30, on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, which tracks sales, radio airplay and other types of demand.

Spears’s record company is readying the release of a video and an album.

Is controversy good for sales? Geoff Mayfield, Billboard’s director of charts, said the strong sales of “Gimme More” reflected pent-up demand since the single only recently became available after weeks of radio play. He and others in the music industry said it remained to be seen how all the attention Spears is getting will affect sales of the album, which, they noted, must appeal musically if it is to sell well.

But one way her personal troubles are undermining a comeback is the time they take away from her ability to promote her music. “Without a doubt, her personal life has prevented her from keeping the focus on the video, the song and everything that should accompany the release of a worldwide superstar’s record,” said Jeff Rabhan, a talent manager who represents the singer Michelle Branch and other artists.

Michael Pagnotta, a music manager and publicist who most recently represented the Olsen twins, said Spears risks irreversible damage to her career. “There’s a tipping point and she’s close to it,” he said. “Michael Jackson found this out.”

Right after Spears’s MTV appearance, Chris Crocker, a fan, made a two-minute video for YouTube in which he rails against Spears’s detractors while sobbing. The “Leave Britney Alone!” video has become one of the site’s most viewed entries of all time, with more than 10.8 million viewers, and Crocker is making appearances on American talk shows.

A former bodyguard, Tony Barretto, who worked for Spears from March to May, hired the media-savvy lawyer Gloria Allred to inject himself into the custody case (and onto television news shows), by reporting that he had seen Spears snorting cocaine at a nightclub and driving unsafely with the kids, among other transgressions. Last Wednesday, Barretto met with officials from the Department of Children and Family Services for about two hours and asked for an investigation of Spears’s behavior.

Allred said her client, the father of two young children, was motivated by concern over the well-being of Spears’s children, not personal gain.

It appears that the 24/7 coverage of Spears worked to her disadvantage in recent days. TMZ says lawyers for Kevin Federline, her former husband, subpoenaed one of its videos showing the pop star driving with her children late last month without a valid license, in direct violation of an order by the judge presiding over the custody case.

Janice Min, editor in chief of US Weekly, said, “I’m not sure that the change in custody would have occurred so quickly had the press not actually been so closely following her role as a mother.”

Levin of TMZ said Spears needed “a wake-up call.”

“It’s not a frivolous story anymore,” he said. “This is a woman who loves her kids who doesn’t have her kids. It’s now taken tragic elements.”

Victoria Beckham shows her Ugly side

Victoria Beckham shows her Ugly side

Her obsession with couture, twiggy frame and primped appearance meant Victoria Beckham fitted right into Ugly Betty’s world of high fashion.

The Spice Girl recently filmed a starring role on the award-winning Channel 4 programme, Ugly Betty – and walked a way with a rather hefty pay check.

She was reportedly paid an impressive £70,000 for a one-off cameo appearance in an episode titled Nice Day for a Posh Wedding.

This sneak peek picture shows Victoria playing bridesmaid to Ugly Betty villain Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams), who is set to wed Alan Dale’s Bradford Meade.

Of course, Posh’s starring role wasn’t complete without a head to toe designer outfit – she looked right at home in a figure hugging Vera Wang dress.

Victoria was first suggested for a cameo role after meeting actor Eric Mabius, who plays Daniel Meade, at an awards ceremony in London.

He was convinced she would be perfect for a walk-on role.

Producer Marco Pennette joked that he wanted David Beckham to come along to filming.

Before shooting started, he said: “We want her husband on set. It’s one of the requirements.”

A source told The Sun Posh fitted right in: “Victoria had a blast filming – and everyone loved having her on.”

He added: “Obviously she’s a fashion expert herself, so she fitted right in at Mode.”

Ugly Betty, which also stars Extras actress Ashley Jensen, is one of the most popular shows on US TV.

Britney Spears’ Constant Presence In Public Eye Could Be Behind Custody Loss

Britney Spears

Sure, we make fun of Britney Spears’ excuses — it was the cobblestones, it was the nanny, it was the paparazzi. But does the pop star have a legitimate complaint when it comes to how the media have covered her? How has this coverage affected her losing custody of her children? Could the trappings of fame be partly to blame?

“When you become a celebrity and you choose to be in the spotlight, there are certain things that come along with that,” said Us Weekly correspondent Jill Martin. “You don’t see Jessica Simpson getting into this kind of trouble.”

Of course Jessica doesn’t have children — but she does have a team. Britney, meanwhile, lost her personal rep, two different managers and two divorce/custody lawyers in the last year — largely because of her erratic behavior.

Without a consistent team, she doesn’t have the ability to run a campaign, dodge bombshells or otherwise effectively get her side of the story out there. So while her stock continues to plummet, her ex-husband’s has continued to rise.
“People hated Kevin Federline when Britney filed for divorce,” said TMZ Managing Editor Harvey Levin. “And now, 77 percent of our viewers that we polled think the kids are better with Kevin.”

“Have I seen K-Fed in action as a parent? No. But I definitely think he’s the better parent,” said celebrity-gossip blogger Perez Hilton.

“It’s because of the environment he’s created for the children. His house is away from the paparazzi. You never see him out and about with the children.”"It doesn’t up the value of the photos to have Britney with the kids at this point,” said Brandy Navarre, who owns the photo agency X17. “Now, if we saw Kevin with the babies, that would be bigger. A shot of him with both kids in a public situation doesn’t exist.”

Which of course begs the question — wouldn’t Britney being photographed spending time with the kids at least prove that she spends time with the kids, versus handing them off to a nanny? Do we actually know what Kevin does with Sean Preston and Jayden James? “What is he doing all those hours with the kids?” Navarre asked. “He’s locking them up in the house? That’s kind of weird.”

So while Federline may make just as many parenting mistakes as Spears, hers are the ones that are documented and scrutinized. When a Los Angeles judge ordered that both of them enroll in a Parenting Without Conflict program (or seek help from a mental-health professional) and participate in joint co-parenting counseling, the headlines focused on Spears’ end of the bargain.

“If we have a really big exclusive Britney story, it can double our traffic in one day,” Navarre said.

Sure, Federline is less of a celebrity, but it’s also a juicier story to proclaim Spears is a bad mother versus Federline as a bad father. He’s already been down that road and has been actively working to counteract that image ever since leaving Shar Jackson while she was pregnant with his second child. Lucky for him, he’s had a consistent team to help him do so, and once he filed for custody, that team has been in overdrive.

“Kevin Federline has had this campaign, this anti-Britney campaign, going for the past few months,” Navarre said. “I think he and his legal team have been playing pretty dirty, and it does seem to be having an effect.”

“The media gets played all the time,” TMZ’s Levin said. “We get played. I will openly admit it. When people call us with info, we have to make sure it’s true and consider their reason for telling us. There are people who want to put certain stories out there.”

All those planted leaks from unnamed “sources” (sometimes legitimate, sometimes not) also help divert attention elsewhere, even if they confuse matters with the court. So while Federline is left alone, the paparazzi swarm Spears and potentially endanger her and her children, at least from her point of view. Her bodyguard was charged in September for attacking a paparazzo in Las Vegas in an attempt to protect Sean Preston. But was Britney seeking the attention to begin with?

“I think she’s addicted to the publicity,” Levin said. “She’s much smarter than we give her credit for. She knows where the cameras are, and I think she gets a rush from it.”

“She knows a lot of our photographers,” X17’s Navarre said. “We have a special relationship with Britney.”

“She seems to like the paparazzi,” Us Weekly’s Martin said. “On many occasions, she’s invited the paparazzi to come along with her.”

Britney Spears

Could Spears be seeking out the paparazzi in a misguided attempt to control her own publicity? Is this her version of damage control, to make sure she remains in the public eye? Then again, if damage control is what’s on her mind, then why back out of interviews for Allure and OK! magazines or run out of the photo shoots.

“I’ve been screamed at, hugged, but I’ve never been stood up [before],” said Allure contributing editor Judith Newman, who was to interview the singer after she completed the photo shoot for the magazine’s September cover. “Britney, you should have done it. We would have had a good time.”

“She’s started to give interviews, then backed out, and then she gets all these negative magazine covers,” Navarre said. “I’m sure if she had someone trying to protect her it wouldn’t be quite so bad for her. I’m not sure Britney can do her own damage control. I don’t think she’s up for it.”

“I don’t think Britney can do the proper damage control because she doesn’t understand what’s going on around her,” Levin said. “She either doesn’t understand or she doesn’t care.”

Lucky for Britney, she doesn’t have it all on her own shoulders anymore. With her yet-untitled studio album, which is due November 13, her record label is shifting into gear with its own campaign — to promote the music. Whether that’s a form of damage control in itself is too soon to say, but it sure couldn’t hurt to have somebody looking out for the singer besides her latest divorce attorney.

“It’s not Jive’s place to fashion a public-relations campaign with respect to Britney’s personal issues,” label spokesman Allan Mayer said, “but Jive does care about her and does support her. We’re not pointing fingers — because the media and the paparazzi wouldn’t exist if there weren’t an appetite for it. But there’s no question that when you have someone at this level of celebrity, they become like cartoons or soap-opera characters, and we forget that they’re human beings. People say that’s the trade you make, that you have to give up your privacy or the ability to lead a normal life, but sometimes you make that bargain before you realize what it entails and it’s too late. Britney’s a grown woman, and she makes her own choices, and we respect that. But she’s been at a disadvantage [without a consistent team], and obviously that makes it harder to cope.”

Jive isn’t planning on trotting out Spears for publicity purposes — at least not yet. The label has other promo plans involving the “Gimme More” single and video for now, which should give the singer a break and allow her to consider the following advice from Perez Hilton: “Britney, you just need to go away for a while, for real.”

Perhaps a break from all the publicity — good, bad and otherwise — would do her some good.

Robbie Williams stands up for Britney

Robbie Williams

British singer Robbie Williams would be willing “to kill” for Britney Spears.

The former Take That singer – who moved to Los Angeles five years ago – is infuriated by the paparazzi throng he sees outside Britney’s house and wants to do something about it.

Robbie confessed to Britain’s The Observer newspaper: “I go past Britney Spears’ house every day on the way to my hike and there are 30 cars outside, and I just want to get out and kill them.”

The 33-year-old Feel singer also revealed he is sacrificing a possible film career to focus on playing soccer and wants his team LA Vale FC to start attracting big names.

He said: “I get a lot of nice film offers, TV shows, that are very flattering to receive, but I turn them all down. I take an almost perverse joy in saying ‘no thanks’ to things.

“I want my team to be known. I want it to be an attractive team to play for, and I want it to have a buzz around it. All the matches are on the internet, so I encourage it really!”

Robbie says being team captain makes him feel part of a “gang” because he has so many new friends.

He added: “I’ve always wanted to be part of a gang, so really I’ve bought myself a gang. They’re all fond of me, and I’m fond of them.

“At the beginning, some new lads came in and they started complaining about the amount of time they were getting on the field. I didn’t put this things together for conflict, so I got rid of them.”

Mick Jagger warns Winehouse

Amy Winehouse

Sir Mick Jagger is worried troubled singer Amy Winehouse could die young if she continues ruining her life with drugs and alcohol.

The Rolling Stones frontman – who has lived a wild rock and roll lifestyle – knows how difficult it is to avoid the trappings of fame, and is willing to help troubled Amy quit drugs and alcohol.

Mick is quoted by Britain’s The Sun newspaper as saying: “Amy is a brilliant artist who makes fantastic music. She has class. I am worried she might die if she goes down the road that she has taken. If only she would sort herself out.

“It’s really hard because your mind has to make that switch. If my mind hadn’t always told me that I shouldn’t do too much, then I could have ended up like Amy years ago.

“But I always had that little voice in my head that kept me on my toes and told me to stop altogether in the end. I realised that I didn’t want to end up dying young.”

Amy, 23, was set to support the Rolling Stones on their ‘A Bigger Bang World Tour’, but had to pull out after an alleged drugs overdose in August.

Mick – who performed with Amy at the Isle of Wight Festival in July – was disappointed she didn’t join them on tour.

He said: “It’s a real shame that happened. She would have been amazing on that tour.

“It would have been like full circle for the Stones, because Amy is like some of these classic soul singers from the past that inspired us. To have a woman that sings just like them in this time is wonderful.”

A member of the audience screamed out: “I love you, Paris!”

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton was on The Late Show with David Letterman last Friday and endured a barrage of barbs and questions from the wry host about her term in prison.

The hotel heiress grew visibly uncomfortable as the interview progressed and tried to maintain her poise. Letterman asked Paris about the food they served in prison and what her she had learned. Hilton tried to deflect any more questions saying, “I’ve moved on with my life. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.” Never one to let someone else have the last word, Letterman replied, “See, this is where you and I are different, this is all I want to talk about.”
Shortly after, a member of the audience screamed out, “I love you, Paris!” She blew a kiss and said that she loves them back. Letterman then quipped, “Someone you met in prison?”
Hilton was originally appearing on the show to promote her new perfume Can-Can among other projects she was working on.
